Mr. Charles William ""Bill"" Carlyn, 71, of Diamondhead, MS, died Friday, January 7, 2011, in Bay St. Louis, MS.
Mr. Carlyn was born in Swampscott, MA. He and his wife, Rita, have been residents of Diamondhead for six years. Bill played on the Swampscott High School football team as a fullback and graduated as a High School All-American for two years (1957 and 1958). He attended the University of Oklahoma and later played for one year as a fullback on the Boston Patriots pro-football team. He was drafted into the US Army where he served for two years. Bill retired out of Memphis, TN, in 1998 as Sales Vice-President for Maybelline/Loreal Cosmetics.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles William Carlyn, and his daughter, Bonnie Danielle Carlyn.
He is survived by his mother, Eleanor Carlyn, his loving wife of 15 years, Rita Evelyn, his son ""Buddy"" William Roger Carlyn (Betty), his step-son Ryan Hayes Delashmit, his sister Nancy Hooton (Richard), his grandson Dustin William Carlyn, and three step-grandchildren, Steven, Nicholas and Katie.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior, both at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln Delisle Rd, Pass Christian.
A graveside service with military honors will follow at 12:30 PM at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
The family requests that donations be made to the Waveland Animal Shelter, 322 Gulfside St., Waveland, MS 39576. You may specify that the donation be used for food and supplies, transfer fees, medical supplies, low-cost adoptions, or neutering.
