Charlene Zella Lopez, 90, of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away on June 7, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Charlene was born on December 31, 1932 to Charles and Alice Wilson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was raised as a child in Duluth, and spent many of her early adult years traveling to a variety of states with her family as a military wife. She eventually settled on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and spent the remaining years as a merchandiser until she retired at the age of 85.
Charlene loved spending time with her family. She was kind and generous, and loved holidays and any opportunity to buy presents. She was a master at keeping up with everyone, and had affectionately earned the title of “tracker” from her family.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Laz J. Lopez, Jr., her sister, Barbara Baumbach, and her son, Robert S. Barnes, Jr. She is survived by her children, Roberta Shelton (Lonnie), Jayne Clay, Charles Barnes (Lauren), and Stephen Barnes (Angie), daughter-in-law, Susie Barnes; grandchildren Tanya Illing (Brett), Gretchen Maxwell, Christy Fulks (Bill), and Melissa Tinsley (Richy), Charles Barnes, Jr. (Juliet Roberts), Stephen Barnes (Tabitha), Kristian Janak (Zane), Robbie Barnes (Mary-Katherine), Taylor Barnes, Wendy White (Justin), Raven Stoddard (Clay); great-grandchildren, Alyssa Tinsley, Mckenzie Maxwell, Kourtlyn Wilson, Riley Tinsley, James Tinsley, Julie Tinsley, Alex Illing, Grayson Janak, Loralei Janak, Brayden King, Falyn White, and Fury White.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Riemann Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, with visitation beginning one hour before. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Gulfport.
