Chalmers Reuter, age 88 and a resident of Gulfport, died on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, in Gulfport.
Mr. Reuter attended St. Johns Lutheran School in Winfield, Kansas. After serving in WWII aboard U.S.S. Bennington, he graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
He was employed by the YMCA in Bogalusa, La. as Boys Secretery for several years. He also worked at the American Red Cross where he spent 30 years as the Field Director providing services to the military. In retirement he was a Gulfport Police Department Reserve Officer and a security guard. He was also an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
Mr. Reuter is preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Hans & Margaret Guhl Reuter and his daughter, Margaret Reuter.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtus Knobloch Reuter of Gulfport, his sons, Earl Reuter of Gulfport and Robert Reuter and wife Bonnie of Varnville, South Carolina; his sister-in-laws, Helen Leggett of Gulfport, Gloria Bradley of Gulfport, Dora Reuter of Mobile, and Marion Knobloch of Westminster, Ca; a brother-n-law Earl Knobloch and wife Beverly of Fresno, Ca.; and granddaughter Alisaun Argo and husband Ross of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 14, 2011, at 10:00 a.m at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 1301 31st Ave., Gulfport, MS 39503, or favorite charity.
