Chalmers "Booty" Hurlbert

d. March 1, 2014

Chalmers R. ""Booty"" Hurlbert, age 87, left this earth on March 1, 2014 to be reunited with his beloved wife Mary of 52 years. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Russell Hurlbert and sisters, Ola Mattina, Louise French, and Audrey Lassiter.
He is survived by his sons, Rudy (Dianne), Russell, and Dennis (Jeanette) Hurlbert, all of Gulfport, daughter, Nadine M. Keane (James) of St. Simons Island, GA, grandchildren, Christopher M. Merritt of WA, Sean P. Keane, Bryan J. Keane, Mary L. Keane, and Timothy R. Keane all of GA, and Jessica Hurlbert of WA, and 3 great-grandchildren.
""Booty"", a lifelong resident of Gulfport, was the son of James Webster and Agnes Krohn Hurlbert. He attended Gulfport High School, enlisted in the Navy during WWII and participated in the Asiatic Pacific and the Philippine Liberation Campaigns while assigned to the USS Lindenwald and USS White Marsh.
After the war, he trained as a plumber, eventually completing over 50 years of membership in the UA Local #568 where as a master plumber he trained many apprentices. He retired from Weaver and Sons. ""Booty"" and Mary were active members of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Gunn Council.
Along with his loving devotion to his wife and children, ""Booty"" shared much love for the waters of the Gulf with family and friends while enjoying shrimping, boating, and fishing. Skilled with his hands, he built boats, furniture, and loved making home improvements. He also enjoyed reading Tarzan and Zane Grey books, gardening, photography, and bird watching. Creative solutions to life's little problems seemed to be his specialty.
Family and friends who shared in his times will always remember them fondly, and all will miss him dearly.
