Mr. Chalmers ""Champ"" Joseph Moran, age 76, resident of Gulfport, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2010.
Mr. Moran was born in Harrison County to Atlan and Bertha Rester Moran Niolet. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and after his military service, he went to college in Perkinston. His career started with Colonial Bakery and Dairy Fresh as a route salesman and later in management. He also worked for Lance Inc. as a route salesman. He retired from the Harrison County Child Development Center, where he was a bus driver and was affectionately known by his children as ""Paw Paw."" He was a faithful member of Gulfport Holiness Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Ladner Evans, Helen Niolet Herring, Sarah Lind Harvey; cousin, Rankin Rester, Jr.; granddaughter, Heather Moran McDonald; and great granddaughter, Kylee McDonald.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Peterson Moran of Gulfport; children, Cheryl Berry (Richard) of Flomaton, AL, Sonia Ward (Steve) of Delisle, Chalmers ""Brian"" Moran (Darlene) of Poplarville, Atlan Moran (Sandra) of Bay Minette, AL; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2010, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, at 2 pm, where friends may visit from 12:30-2 pm.
Burial will follow at Finley Cemetery.
