Cecilia Anice Burkett

Cecilia Anice Burkett passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at her home in Pass Christian. The second-born child of three, she was born in New Orleans on October 24, 1959, to Kearney and Wanza Rome. Cecilia graduated from Grace King High School in 1977. She spent many years in the city of New Orleans working in the family-owned business, Bayou Airfreight, before she moved to Pass Christian after marrying the love of her life, William “Bill” Burkett.  

Cecilia enjoyed spending quiet time at home on her porch with her husband Bill. She maintained a life-long love of horses, and she was an avid animal lover who kept a menagerie of animals over the years. Cecilia had a kind, caring heart, and she would do anything for her children and her grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and dedicated grandmother who will be greatly missed.  

She is preceded in death by her parents, Kearney J. Rome and Wanza P. Rome, her mother and father-in-law, William H. Burkett and Gloria Burkett, and her stepdaughter Jennifer Burkett, all from New Orleans.  

She is survived by her loving husband, William H. Burkett Jr. brother Michael (Candace) Rome of Metairie, sister Michelle (Ronnie) Savoy of Pass Christian, son Randy (Julia) Speed of Long Beach, daughter Rachael Speed of Pass Christian, step-son Michael (Kristen) Burkett of Long Beach, grandchildren Brody Morris of Ocean Springs, Camille Speed, Davis Speed, William H. Burkett III, Hannah Burkett, and Michael Burkett, Jr. all of Long Beach, nieces Monique (Eric) Newman of Harahan, Kelsey Rome of Metairie, and Angelique (Darren) Clark of Mandeville, and nephews Mitchell Vicknair, Maddix Vicknair of Mandeville, and Jaxon Currier of Metairie, along with numerous other friends and family members.  

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, September 15, 2023, from 3 pm to 5 pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home.
