Cecelia Bixbee

August 8, 1920 — January 18, 2009

Cecelia Bixbee, August 8 1920-January 18 2009, to many she was known for her soft sultry voice, heard all over the coast from the 1940's to the late 1980's, enchanting fans with her style and perfection. She came here from New Orleans to sing with the Preston-Robertson Orchestra at the fashionable Broadwater Beach Hotel and married the handsome trumpet playing Jock Robertson. The love of her life was tragically taken in an accident in 1958. Fair of face and small in stature, her laughter was easily recognized in a crowded room. She was many things, but to Joedna, Margie, John Lee, April and Nancy she was """"Mother"""". We recall things like drive inn movies, scrabble, Chinese checkers..and wonderful music... watching her dress for work, she looked like a movie star. She always had us check the back of her hair to make sure it was just so. After retiring she enjoyed so much the time she spent with her son and companion John Lee in the home they shared in Bayou View. One of their favorite activities was watching world class tennis. She did not socialize much but loved our family get togethers. She lived in her home until the fall of 2008 when, due to illness, she moved to her daughter April's personal care home. We know that Mother is in a better place without pain but able to walk in the presence of God and the angels. We will always hold her close in our hearts but surrender her to God knowing that surely she is singing her heart out reunited with family and the love of her life.
She is survived by brothers John and Charles Kirsch, son, John Lee Robertson, Gulfport, and daughters Joedna (Randy) Fagan, Ocean Springs, Margie Mayfield, Houston, TX, April (Wayne) Hudson, Biloxi, and Nancy (Buddy) Wills, D'Iberville; 10 grandchildren Cobia, Todd, and Randy Fagan Jr., Sean, Lee Michael and Bryan Mayfield, Brandee Adams, Jason and Corey Hudson, and Amanda Richards and 14 great grandchildren.
