Catherine Fusek

Catherine Lynn Shaw Summers Fusek, of Saucier, recently passed in Gulfport, MS. She was born on August 12, 1962 and went home to be with the Lord on February 4, 2021.
Catherine, 58, was wife to George, mother to Danny and Mawmaw to Jasmine, Juliette, and Landon. She was a retired registered nurse with 30 years of service in healthcare. One of her greatest accomplishments was putting herself through nursing school as a very young, single mom so that she could provide the best life for her son and for that, we are grateful. She enjoyed writing poetry, making crafts ad shopping for her grandchildren. Her poetry was even featured in an edition of the New Millennium Poets, published by the Famous Poets Society. In her retirement, she was teaching herself to cook and was very proud of that accomplishment as well. Even when she was feeling sick, she made sure that her grandkids had the most amazing holiday dinners.
Catherine was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Catherine Redmond Shaw Stiles, her brother, Durward Wetzel Shaw Jr, and her brothers-in- law Charles Thurman and Mike Mullins.
She is survived by her husband, George Fusek; her son, Danny Summers and his wife, Susie, and their three children, Jasmine, Juliette and Landon. She is also survived by her sisters and their spouses, Beatrice and John Wiggin, Sherlyn and Tony Calabretta, Rhonda Thurman, Linda Mallett; her brother, Gene and his wife Irma Shaw; and her special aunt, Joann Henley; and other numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, and friends.
When Catherine loved, she loved big and we could all feel it. She will be missed dearly but we are glad she is no longer in pain and rejoicing with the Lord.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Singing River Gulfport for taking such good care of our Catherine.
For those unable to attend, there will be a virtual viewing available with a link provided by the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you perform a random act of kindness towards a healthcare worker or make a donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in her name and honor.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport, with a procession leaving at 2:00 PM, to Biloxi National Cemetery for burial at 2:30 PM.
