Mr. Carrol W. Gunnels, age 87, resident of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2009, in Gulfport.
Mr. Gunnels was born in McNeil, Arkansas to the late James P. and Bertie Dees Gunnels. After high school graduation, he served in the United States Army Air Corps where he served honorably.
He worked in several industries before retiring as a sales manager from the aluminum manufacturing business after 30 years. He loved vegetable gardening and bird hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his four brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dot Gunnels of Gulfport; daughter, Linda Olier and her husband Rene of Gulfport; sister, Lurlyne Gunter of Atlanta, TX; grandchildren, Scott Souder, Frank Souder, Laura Geil, and Major Bryan Olier; great grandchildren, Jonathan Souder, Gunner Geil, Mackenzi Geil, Emily Olier, and Riley Olier.
Funeral services will be held at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, at 2 pm, on Sunday, January 3, 2009. Friends may visit one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to MS City United Methodist Church, 219 Courthouse Road, Gulfport, MS 39507.
