Carolyn Klees Simpson, age 69, passed away at her home in Pass Christian on May 25, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Gilmore Simpson, her parents John F. Klees, Jr. and Barbara Livaudais Klees, and her brother, Dr. John F. Klees, III. Survivors include her four children, daughters, Carolyn K. ""Carey"" Simpson and Stephanie Simpson Bryan, sons, John G. ""Jack"" Simpson, Jr. and Dr. Sam L. Simpson; her son-in-law, Milton T. Bryan and two daughters-in-law, Gloria Flack Simpson and Dr. Janet Simpson; her six grandchildren, John G. Simpson, III, Catherine E. Simpson, Clayton T. Bryan, Matthew L. Simpson, Elizabeth A. Simpson, and Ryan J. Simpson; her brother, the Honorable Robert J. Klees and sister, Barbara ""Sue"" Klees Golden and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a 1961 graduate of Holy Name of Jesus Mercy Academy in New Orleans and attended Loyola University, New Orleans. She was a longtime resident of Pass Christian and former alderman. She had been an active member of St. Paul's Church, Pass Christian and volunteer at St Paul's School and at St. Stanislaus. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Long Beach since 2006. For many years, she worked alongside her husband until his early death. She then worked at VT Halter for fifteen years. She was a member of the Orleans Club of New Orleans, the Pass Christian Garden Club, and St. Paul's Altar Society.
Carolyn was well known for her kindness and generosity to family and friends. She was endearingly known as Nana by her grandchildren and countless area children. She was renowned for her swimming parties. One of her greatest pleasures was indulging her grandchildren and chauffeuring them around. All who met her were entertained by stories of her children's and grandchildren's exploits.
Visitation will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Long Beach, on May 29, 2013, from 10:00 - 12:00 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon and then graveside services at Live Oak Cemetery, Pass Christian.
