Carolyn Bruni, age 94 of Gulfport passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008 in Gulfport, Mississippi. Mrs. Bruni was born in Paterson, New Jersey after her family had immigrated to America from Itlay. She received her basic education in Paterson and after high school graduated from Drake Business School. She was married for over 40 years to her devoted husband, Dino. She worked in Paterson for New Jersey Bell for 20 years and lived there until the death of her husband in 1978. She subsequently moved to the Gulf Coast and lived here since, so she considered herselef a """"naturalized"""" Mississippian. Through her membership in the Sunshine Guild at Gulf Community Hospital, Mrs. Bruni provided many hours of volunteer work.
She was the unofficial """"greeter"""" at her son's pediatric clinic for many years, thus becoming a comforting, familiar face to many children on the coast. She was noted for her Italian cooking which she gladly passed on to all the members of her family. She never let age get in the way of things; she did not learn to drive until she was nearly 70 years old. She was a faithful member of St. James Catholic Church for thirty years attending mass weekly until her declining health prevented it.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Natalina Savini, a younger sister, Rosina, her husband, Dino, and close friend in later years, Al Kinchen. She is survived by her sister, Rose Donohue of Lakewood, New Jersey, son, Dr. Ron Bruni and his wife Lee of Gulfport, grandchildren, Jeff Bruni and his wife, Angela of Gulfport, Dr. Tim Bruni and his wife, Tracie of Gulfport, Damian Bruni and wife, Jennifer of Huntsville, Ala., Chrissy Bruni of Gulfport and six great grandchildren, Catie Lee Bruni, Jeff Bruni, Jr., Christopher Bruni, Colton Bruni, Cooper Bruni, and Xavier Bruni.
She was a loving, caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family all who knew her. Though her health held her back the past year or so, she had an uncanny ability to bounce back. This was due in no small measure, to the special care she received from her many caretakers in her last years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday. September 24, 2008 from St. James Catholic Church, 306 Cowan Road, Gulfport, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may pay their respects after 10 a.m. until the start of Mass. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to St. James Catholic Church, St. Vincent de Paul Society.
