Carol Bailey Wood

d. July 15, 2023

Long Beach

Carol Bailey Wood, age 78, of Long Beach, passed away on July 15, 2023.

Carol was born on December 4, 1944, in Denver, CO to Clark and Leah Bailey. She grew up in a loving family that included her brother, Roger.

Carol graduated from Gulfport High School and embarked on a fulfilling career with Mississippi Power Company. She dedicated many years of her life to the company before retiring and enjoying a well-deserved rest.

Outside of her professional life, Carol was an active member of the community and cherished her involvement in various church choirs. Her soprano voice beautifully resonated through sacred spaces as she shared her musical talents with others. Carol's faith was an essential part of her life. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gulfport and United Methodist Church in Long Beach. Additionally, she served as a Youth Group Leader at Long Beach Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport.

One thing that brought immense joy to Carol's life was traveling alongside her husband Robert A. Wood Jr., whom she shared 59 glorious years of marriage with. Together they explored the diverse landscapes of the United States. They were ardent campers who enjoyed basking in nature's beauty. Family and friends were equally important to Carol as she treasured their company.

During quieter moments, Carol found joy in crocheting. With great care and skill, she crafted numerous afghans that became precious heirlooms for those fortunate enough to receive them. Her thoughtful gestures touched the lives of many.

Carol's love extended not only to humans but also to animals. As an avid animal lover, she ensured that their faithful canine companions were always by their side during their travels. Carol's compassionate nature touched the hearts of those around her and left behind a legacy of kindness.

After bravely battling illness for the past seven months, Carol gained her angel wings. She now watches over family from Heaven. Her spirit will forever reside in the hearts and memories of those who cherished her.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Clark and Leah Bailey, and her brother, Roger Bailey.

Carol leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her devoted husband Robert A. Wood Jr.; their loving children, Michelle (Roger) Evans and Becky (Bruce) Layton; her beloved grandchildren, Joseph Layton and Daniel (Abigale) Layton. Carol is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joan Bailey; brother-in-law, Charles (Judy) Wood; nephews Steve (Lisa) Wood, Richie (Stephanie) Wood, and Chad Bailey (Nancy); and family relative, Patty Pope.

In this time of mourning, we remember Carol as a loving wife, a caring mother, a doting grandmother, and a dear friend. The memory of Carol will forever bring smiles to our faces as we reflect on the beautiful moments shared with this remarkable woman.
The family would like to thank the many healthcare workers of Memorial Hospital of Gulfport who cared for her. Special thanks to Dr. Alex Cole, Dr. Melissa Muirhead, and Allison Wall for their dedication to providing excellent care and support to Carol and her family. Thanks to Paul and Frances Vandercook for their support.
