Carol Lavonne Sandberg Bellew, age 82 and a resident of Saucier, died on Thursday, November 26, 2009, in Saucier.
Mrs. Bellew is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Glenn Bellew, her parents, David and Ella Sandberg, two brothers, Kiel and Wendy Sandberg, and a sister, Clariss Gordon.
She is survived by a sister, Chris Murr of Hibbing, MN, six children and their spouses: Bob and Sheila Bellew of Long Beach, Terry and Sharron Bellew of Hattiesburg, Susan Denham of Saucier, David and Sarah Bellew of Hattiesburg, Danny and Kaye Bellew of Hattiesburg, Mary Ann and Tommy Murphy of Saucier, 15 grandchildren and their spouses: Robbie and Carrie Bellew, Clay and Susan Bellew, Josh and Christine Bellew, Kari and Kurt Kratz, Chris and Deborah Bellew, Greg and Sara Denham, Geoff and Bentley Denham, Bonnie and Ricky Wedgeworth, Geremy Denham, Ashton Murphy, Terra Murphy, Hunter Necaise, Haley Necaise, Stephen Viehweg, and Trey Viehweg, and 22 great-grandchildren.
Carol was a devoted housewife and mother. Carol and her husband were foster parents to 33 children from Harrison County in the 1970aÌââ¢s and 1980aÌââ¢s as well as a loving aÌâÅfill-inaÌâ mother/grandmother to countless numbers of children in the Success Community. She touched the lives of all children and accepted them as part of her family.
Carol was a member of Poplar Head United Methodist Church in Success, MS where she was a member of the United Methodist WomenaÌââ¢s Group as well as one of the founding members of the Busy Bees Quilting Group. She was a member and hostess of the Home Demonstration Club in the 1950aÌââ¢s and 1960aÌââ¢s. Carol worked at the Poplar Head Voting Precinct during elections.
Carol enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, swimming, camping, and traveling with her family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and quilting. Carol also enjoyed playing in a BUNCO group with her friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Poplar Head Methodist Church, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
