Carlyn Joyce Viehmann was born as the second child of Wilmer Allen and Willie Beatrice Strong in Jack, MS. She recently died of natural causes in Gulfport, MS.
Carlyn was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Helen B. Curtis; her brother, Lenton W. Strong; and her son, Thomas A. King.
She is survived by her husband, Henry W. Viehmann, Jr.; her sisters, Dorris M. Steffen and Lois L. Conn; daughter-in-law, Kathy A. King; grandsons, Thomas A. King, Jr., and Brian J. King; granddaughter, Kelly D. King; great granddaughters, Brianna, Alice, Hannah, Savanna, Sariah; and great grandson, Samuel.
Mrs. Viehmann graduated from Crystal Springs High School, Mercy School of Nursing (Vicksburg), and Charity Hospital School of Anesthesia (New Orleans).
Following her graduation as a Registered Nurse (R.N.), Mrs. Viehmann was employed by the Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital (Hazelhurst). Anesthesia training followed and after completion at Charity Hospital she became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (C.R.N.A.) at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport.
Mrs. Viehmann worked briefly in Gulfport before beginning her worldwide travels with her husband in Europe and Southeast Asia.
Her anesthesia career of 40 years included training nurse anesthetists at Creighton University School of Anesthesia as well as extensive service at Deaconess Hospital, St. Louis, MO.
More recently, Mrs. Viehmann has served loyally as a member of the United Methodist Women and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Long Beach. She is a member and past president of Chapter B of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
The funeral service will be conducted at First United Methodist Church, 208 Pine Street, Long Beach, at 12:30pm on Thursday, January 29, 2015 with a visitation for family and friends from 10:30 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow the service at Biloxi National Cemetery.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are requested to the First United Methodist Permanent Endowment Fund, PO Box 375, Long Beach, MS 39560, or the charity of your choice.
