Carl Vincent Ladner, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on November 24, 2024, at St. Joseph Hospice in Gulfport, Mississippi, at the age of 75.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Terry J. Ladner and Olivia Allen Ladner, as well as his brothers, Billy Ladner, J.W. Ladner, and Norris Ladner, and sisters, Vernell Sullivan and Uva Grubbs.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Diane Peranich Ladner and his four children: Brittany (Chris) Ryle, Brooke (Ricky) Spring, Jordan Ladner, and Tyler (Jordyn) Ladner. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Lauryn (Kenneth) Atwood, Alyssa Davis, Jax, Miller, and Lane Ladner, and Chase Spring; his five great-grandchildren: Fenway, Cooper, Cy, Caroline, and Ace Atwood; as well as his brother, Dean (Jeanie) Ladner of Bay St. Louis, MS. Carl is also remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Carl was a proud native and lifelong resident of Gulfport. He attended Gulfport High School before serving his country as a member of the Marine Corps Reserves. A dedicated worker, Carl spent many years working for Specialty Contractors and later founded his own company, Quality Acoustics and Drywall, in Mobile, Alabama. Even after suffering a life-changing stroke at the age of 41, Carl displayed remarkable resilience, teaching himself to walk and drive again and eventually working for Gulfport Industrial Supply.
Carl was a true legend of fun and laughter, leaving behind a lifetime of stories — most of which are probably best left untold. He loved the outdoors, spending weeks camping at Gulf State Park and enjoyed hunting and being on his boat with family and friends. Carl’s biggest passion was being at the ball field. His love for baseball and softball started as a player and evolved into a passion for coaching. He spent countless hours coaching his children and teaching them the ropes of the game and passing down his love for the sport and his unbeatable competitive spirit. His proudest moments were spent on the sidelines, hollering encouragement (and sometimes unsolicited advice) to his grandchildren during their times on the field. Carl was always the life of the party, often found in the center of the dance floor on his scooter, bringing joy and laughter to everyone around him. He cherished his time with his family and especially his loyal dog, Marley.
He was a fighter to the very end, overcoming countless challenges with unwavering determination and faith. His courage, love for life, and devotion to his family will forever be remembered.
A devoted Catholic, Carl was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at St. James Catholic Church, with visitation for friends beginning at 11:30 am in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Gulfport.
