Captain Donald D. Garnett, United States Coast Guard, Retired, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011.
Donald was born in Sioux City, Iowa and after graduating high school in San Diego, California he attended the United States Coast Guard Academy where he graduated as an officer.
He became Captain and proudly served 30 years active duty before retiring in Long Beach, MS. Upon his retirement from the USCG, he continued his maritime career in the private sector. He was especially proud of his final Captains position where he assisted the United States Navy in highly confidential assignments around the world.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Viola and Kenneth Garnett and his son Gerald Spray.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Lois Fish Garnett, his seven children, Sherri Stringfield (Mack), Cyndi Shelton (Chuck), Debbie Kennedy (Scott), Richard Garnett, Lori Roeper (Robert), Renee Rose (James), and Sandra Williams (Daniel), nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and his two sisters, Linda Parsons and Jan Snyder.
The visitation will be Friday, September 23, 2011 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, at Saint Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach, MS. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport will full honors by the United States Coast Guard.
