Calvin George Byrne Sr. passed away peacefully on June 19, 2022, at the age of 93.
Calvin is survived by his sons, Byron Hugh Byrne (Debbie), Kevin Joseph Byrne (Anne), and Timothy Sean Byrne (Ann); daughter, Erin Marie Byrne; and grandchildren, Dr. Emma Byrne Levenson Moore, Abbie Rose Levenson, Jennifer Byrne Robinson, and Evan Matthew Byrne; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Traub Byrne; son, Calvin George Byrne, Jr.; son-in-law, William Joshua Levenson; parents, Hugh Byrne, Sr. and Emma Anderson Byrne; and siblings, Emmett Byrne, Conrad Byrne, Isabella Byrne McGrath, Hugh Byrne, Jr., Eugene Byrne, and Thomas Byrne.
Calvin was a New Orleans native and a 53-year resident of Chalmette prior to relocating to Diamondhead, MS. following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He graduated from S. J. Peters High School in New Orleans. He served in the U. S. Navy post World War II and was stationed in Alaska. He worked for Lusk Shipping Company as a Stevedoring Operations Manager for over 35 years and held similar titles at Roadway Express and Highway Express shipping companies as a second job to provide for his family.
Calvin loved dancing with his wife, taking his children on outdoor adventures, attending events with the Packenham PALS neighborhood organization, working in the yard, and watching old movies. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and attending every possible event in which his grandchildren participated. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and doting Gramps to his four grandchildren. Calvin was also a “second dad” to many of his nieces and nephews as well as to family friends from his Chalmette neighborhood. Calvin’s work ethic and dedication to his family, calm demeanor, compassion, generosity, and love will be greatly missed; and memories of him will be cherished by his family and friends.
