Robert Donald Roley """"Bob"""", age 65, was born November 14, 1944. Bob went home to be with Jesus the morning of Tuesday, May 25. He had been a resident of Gulfport for 29 years.
He was born in Pena, Illinois and grew up in Madison, GA. until he met and married his loving wife of 31 years, Janet and moved to Mississippi. He attended the University of Georgia and was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and received his Bachelors Degree from Massey Law College.
He was an active member of St, John's Catholic Church for many years and when he moved to Orange Grove began attending St. Joseph's. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator. He had been employed by various hospitals on the Gulf Coast and retired from South Mississippi Regional Center, Bob was an active volunteer at Memorial Hospital where he mostly worked in the Cath Lab and ICU areas which was a job that he dearly loved.
He was a founding member of the Krewe of Odysseus where he served as President and also as King Odyssesus II with one of his very best friends, Sue Cuevas as his queen.
Bob was a devoted and loving husband and a caring father to not only his son but to many others. He was a true southern gentleman.. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time and traveling with them. At the end of Bob's journey, he was always positive,grateful,and constantly thanking everyone for providing care for him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rolf and Mary Roley and his mother-in-law Lucille Favre who he dearly loved.
Survivors include his wife, Janet, his son Bryan Roley of Chantilly, VA , his step-mother, Jean Roley of Athens, GA, his loving pet and companion Gabbie; brother-in laws Kenneth Favre (Myrna), David Favre (Teresa), Chuck Favre (Emilu); sister-in-law Cathy Fortenberry (Steve) as well as Joey & Justin who spent many summers and weekends with Bob and a multitude of family,extended family and friends.
The family would like to express their deepest sincere and heartfelt thanks to the staff of Memorial Hospital and Memorial Hospice. They would also like to give thanks for his most caring group of physicians and staff which include, Dr. Paul Mullen, Mark Griffith as well as Dr. David Larosa. and Dr. Joseph,O'Gorman.. Also, thanks to all those providing prayers and support during this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St, Joseph's Catholic Church Building Fund, Gulfport or St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tn.
Visitation is Saturday, May 29 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life and Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 1:00 pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Depew in Gulfport.
