Billy W. Smith, affectionately known as ""Cotton"" age 70 of Ocean Springs, died Thursday, October 13, 2011, in Moss Point, MS.
He was born in Hattiesburg, MS but was a long time resident of Ocean Springs on the Gulf Coast. Cotton worked for Knight Abbey Printing for many years but his first passion was singing. He was an accomplished singer and entertained for a living in his earlier years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Dee Smith and Hollie Fant ""Doc"" Smith; two sisters, Barbara ""Nell"" Burnham and Kathleen Myers and one nephew, Ronnie Bourne.
He is survived by one sister, Juanita Sanford of Petal, MS; two brothers, Edward Ray Smith of Topeka, KS and G. Michael Smith of Biloxi, MS; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and a special lifelong friend, Corliss Ann Pittman of Hattiesburg, MS.
There will be a graveside service at 12:30 pm on Sunday, November 6, at the Forrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Petal, MS. Immediately following will be a celebration of ""Cotton's"" life at the Sunrise Community Center.
The Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road in Biloxi, assisted the family with arrangements.
