Billy Joseph Barnett, affectionately known as "BB," passed away on November 11, 2023, in Long Beach, Mississippi, at the age of 64. He was born on September 23, 1959, in Gulfport, Mississippi, to Billy James Barnett and Mary Robertson Barnett.
Billy's journey began at St. John High School in Gulfport, where he graduated in 1979. He furthered his education at MGCCC Perkinston, graduating in 1981. He then attended the University of Southern Mississippi, working towards his Bachelor's Degree.
During his high school years, Billy's talent for basketball shone brightly alongside his brother Bobby. Together, they were known as the "Battling Barnett Brothers," leaving a lasting impression on the court.
Billy's career as a shrimp boat captain spanned over 35 years, operating out of the Pass Christian Harbor. He was renowned for his culinary skills, particularly his famous Barnett shrimp gumbo.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Billy James Barnett and Mary Robinson Barnett.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary "Lu Lu" Wise, and her husband Dustin, of Long Beach. He also leaves behind his beloved granddaughter, Emma Lou Wise; his step-daughters, Kymberly Stevens and Megan Cuavas, both of Long Beach, and his siblings: Charlotte Barnett Miller and her husband Steve of St. Petersburg, FL; Wanda Barnett Licona and her husband Carlos of St. Petersburg, FL; Gail Barnett Odom and her husband Buddy of Jacksonville, FL; and Bobby Barnett and his wife Mary Ann of Gulfport.
A visitation to honor Billy's life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home, located at 19130 Commission Rd. in Long Beach, MS 39560.
