Bill Hayes, 90, of Biloxi, Mississippi, died on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 with family and friends.
He was born February 4, 1929 in Flint, Michigan to Coy Fielder Hayes and Edna Bartholomew Hayes.
Growing up in hard times, he began working at the age of 12. He enlisted in the service in 1949. He was in the Navy Reserves, the Army Paratroopers, and retired from the Air Force in 1969. He ran several gas stations after his military retirement and other endeavors to support his family as he always did even as a very young man.
He was always a man of Christian faith and set a fine example for his family. He lived modestly but he was a very generous man at the same time. He knew that God blessed him when he gave. He always tithed to his church and quietly supported several religious ministries. He even gave money to hurting people that he encountered at Burger King. (his favorite hang- out) He would help anyone in need. We may never know of all those he has helped, but we are sure that they will never forget the quiet man who helped them when they needed it. He was also very quick witted. He was quick to make a joke about the simplest things. We will all miss his humor.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers Floyd and Rudy, and his wife of 60 years, Audrey, whom he loved and adored.
He is survived by 3 children, Debbie Gill (Rusty), Denise Duncan (Jim), and Donnie Hayes (Teresa). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and by 2 sisters, Barbara Wood and Wanda Tarver.
The family would like to thank all of those who cared for him in his last few years.
Thank you Stone County Nursing Home for providing care for our father.
Thank you Veterans Administration for supporting our father and all veterans.
The family would like to express a very special thank you to the many sitters/caregivers. You all showed so much compassion and love for our Dad. And he loved you for it. We absolutely hold a special place in our hearts for you.
