Beverly Kay Odom, 63, of Kiln passed away on August 14, 2024, in Slidell, LA. She is preceded in death by her father, Hilder Leroy Odom of Poplarville, her grandparents, Arthur and Lucille Odom of Poplarville, Lee and Evelyn Smith of Poplarville, Rosella and Paul Krumm of Iowa, and great niece, Baylie Hattaway of Kiln. Left to cherish her memories are her son, Neil “Bo” Leroy Moran, of Kiln, her parents, Gilbert and Marlene Smith of Kiln, her grandchildren: Jayden Malley, Emorie Carver, Addyson Moran, and Waylon Moran, her siblings: Deborah Odom Hilton, Brenda Odom Fairley, Dolly Odom Lee, all of Kiln, and Johnny Smith (Jodi) of Baxterville, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, friends, and those she adopted as family.
Beverly was born in 1961 in Poplarville, MS. She answered to many names throughout her lifetime, but the one most knew her as was Kay. To her sisters, she was always Beverly. She was a free spirit, and although she was not the oldest sister, she was always a protector over her family. There was rarely a time that she was not available to lend a helpful hand, give advice, or give an honest opinion.
She and her parents had a bond like no other. She enjoyed her weekly visits and always ensured her parents were taken care of.
For anyone that knew Kay, there was no denying that “mother” was her favorite name. Everyone knows her son, Bo, was her pride and joy. She kept a drawing with “I love you, mom” from Bo dated 1992 in her purse at all times. Her love knew no boundaries & only grew as her grandchildren came along. Maw Moo and Maw Kay weren’t just saved for her biological grandchildren but also for the abundance of children that often frequented her home. Once you met her, you always had a Maw Kay.
Kay loved her friends and family and included them in all her hobbies. She enjoyed a good party, looking for arrowheads, spending time at the river or pool, finding a good deal with her mother, and as her family likes to joke- she loved a good dumpster dive find! Kay was not often seen without her beloved dog, Benji. Her family would often joke about her soft spot for any dog that she came across.
She included everyone, no matter their background, status, or interests. She provided a safe place for the weary and had a servant’s heart. She was unapologetically herself, and she loved hard.
The family will host a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers or contributions, the family asks that you honor Kay’s memory by spreading love in the forms of random acts of kindness, good deeds, and creating a personal bond with Christ.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, Pass Christian, is honored to serve the Odom family.
