Betty M. Symmes

Betty Ellen Mote Symmes, 85, of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2012.
Betty was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 14, 1926, but resided in Gulfport since marrying Edgar P. Symmes, Jr., on July 29, 1947.
She was preceded in death by grandchildren, Wesley McCabe and Courtenay Symmes, but survived by her husband of 64 years, Edgar P. Symmes, Jr.; two daughters, Jill Stewart and Candice Lambert; two sons, Poe Symmes and Bryce Symmes; her brother, Russ Mote; as well as 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Stewart, Will Symmes, Cowles Symmes, B. J. Symmes, Brandy McCabe Hyde, Jesse Symmes, Tim McCabe, Christen Symmes Blaine, Christopher Symmes, Colten Symmes, Nicole Symmes, and Carlin Symmes; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Betty was a member of Trinity Methodist Church and will be well remembered for her devotion to her Christian faith. Although she worked most of her life in retail, she had a great love of music and floral design. Her patience was well known and never more evident than with her husband's love of fishing.
The family of Betty would like to thank the Lake View Nursing Home for years of loving care.
The visitation will be Wednesday morning, February 22, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Methodist Church in Gulfport with the funeral service to follow shortly after at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Mississippi Alzheimer's Association, 196 Charmant Dr. Suite 4, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
