Betty Jean Shea, 77, of Gulfport, MS passed away on Saturday, November 24th at her home after a long illness. She was born on December 6, 1929 in Decatur, IL and lived most of her life in San Bernardino, CA, before moving to Gulfport in 2004. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Christine Platzbecker; brother, Henry Platzbecker; and son-in-law Richard Tornero.
Betty returned to work at 40 years of age and climbed the corporate ladder to become County Recorder. She retired from the County of San Bernardino after 20 years. Her passion throughout her life was always her family.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Peter Walter Shea, her daughters, Carolyn Tornero of San Bernardino, CA, Jeannie Keith (husband John) of Oriental, NC, Ellen Shea of Birch Bay, WA, Anne Aguirre (husband Aldo) of Las Vegas, NV, and Dr Maureen Holland (husband Dr James) of Gulfport, MS; sons, Terry Shea (wife Randi) of San Bernardino, CA, John Shea (wife Sheri) of Leesport, PA, and Michael Shea (wife Sheryl) of Dallas, TX. She has 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; Sisters, Lois Platzbecker of Springfield, IL, Darlene Ames of Decatur, IL and Sue Cooley of Bloomsburg, PA.
In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in her memory.
Visitation is Wednesday, 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. November 28, 2007, at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Three Rivers Road, Gulfport with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church on Thursday, November 29, 2007. Inurnment will be on 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. James Cemetery.
