Betty "GiGi" Ann Thurman Sears

Betty Ann Thurman Sears, born on April 7, 1942, peacefully went to meet her Heavenly Father on August 15, 2024, in Gulfport, Mississippi.

A native of Gulfport, Betty was one of 13 children born to the late James Thurman and Caroline Lizana Thurman. Throughout her life, she touched many hearts while working as a waitress and hostess at H & H Café, Moody’s, Ramada Inn, Holiday Inn, and Morrison’s at Edgewater Mall.

Betty was a devoted mother to eight children, a loving grandmother to 25 grandchildren, and a cherished great-grandmother to 32 great-grandchildren, with whom she loved spending her time. For the past two years, she resided at the Gulfport Care Center, where she made many new friends. In her final days, she was surrounded by her loving family.

Betty enjoyed cooking, solving word searches, bowling, and playing bingo. Her outgoing warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband George Sears, parents, James and Caroline Thurman; her daughter Claudette Beaugez; siblings, James, Wiley, Edmond, Charlie, Donna, Mary and Eva.

She is survived by her children, James “Jimmy” Sears (Karen) Atoka, TN, Linda Ingram (Craig) of Gulfport, Veronica Sears of Gulfport, Earl Sears (Michelle) of Diamondhead, Carol Smith (Paul) of Gulfport, Duane Sears, of Gulfport, Tina Mackins (Will) of Colorado Springs; 25 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; siblings, Wallace Thurman (Ruth) of McHenry, William Thurman (Linda) of McHenry, Patricia Allen (Stanley) of Pass Christian, Avis Garland (Mike) of Gulfport, Marty Goodman of Long Beach; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the American Cancer Society (see link at  bottom of obituary) 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 20th 2024, at 11:00 AM, with visitation starting at 10:00 AM at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Rd. Gulfport, MS. Interment will follow at 12:30 PM at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave. Biloxi, MS.
