It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Marie Fleming, affectionately known as “Rhee” to her friends and family. Rhee was born on December 22, 1954, in Calhoun County, MS. She departed from this world on October 24, 2023, in her home in Long Beach, MS, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
One of Rhee's passions in life was Ole Miss. Despite the fact that she never attended Ole Miss, she had an unwavering love for everything associated with the university, particularly the football program. Her devotion to the university was a testament to her deep sense of pride and loyalty. Another significant source of joy in Rhee's life was her beloved dog, Tink. The bond between Rhee and Tink was truly remarkable, a companionship that brought immeasurable happiness to both of them.
Rhee had an innate connection with the natural world and found solace in the great outdoors. Her favorite pastime over the last years of her life was watching the birds, and she could spend hours observing them. One of the most enduring qualities that endeared Betty to everyone she met was her friendly and approachable demeanor. She had an uncanny ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, turning strangers into friends with her welcoming smile and genuine interest in their lives. Her warmth and kindness touched the hearts of countless people throughout her lifetime. Rhee's sense of humor was another hallmark of her personality. She had a knack for making people laugh and enjoyed pulling lighthearted pranks. Her playful spirit brought joy and laughter into every gathering.
In remembering Betty Marie Fleming, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with love, laughter, and a genuine connection with others. She leaves behind a legacy of friendship, warmth, and a reminder to find joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Betty is survived by her loving family and friends, including her partner, Laney Giles; her sisters, Linda Little (MC) and Paula Parten (Clay); her nieces and nephews – Matt Little, Lauren Little, Dawn Leach, Eli Wilson, and Jennifer Bailey; numerous grand nieces and nephews; and, the Brown family cousins, Phillip, Bill, Jim, Bruce, Eva, Sandy, Dolly and Donna, who will forever cherish the memories they created together.
As we bid farewell to our dear Rhee, let us find solace in knowing that her spirit will live on in the hearts and stories of those who were fortunate enough to know and love her. Rhee was adamant that there be no funeral or memorial service to honor her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Humane Society of South Mississippi (hssm.org/donate) in Betty's name. Betty's light may have dimmed on this earth, but it will forever shine brightly in our hearts. May she rest in eternal peace. Hotty Toddy!
