Elizabeth aÌ‚â‚Å“BetsyaÌ‚â‚ Vick Gaines, age 85, of Gulfport, passed away Friday, January 22, 2010, in Gulfport.
Mrs. Vick Gaines was a lifelong resident of Gulfport. She graduated in 1942 from Gulfport High School, and was a proud graduate with high honors from the University of Mississippi, where she received the academic honor of 2 Taylor Medals.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy A. Vick, of San Diego, CA, her son, Walter C. Vick, Jr., of Alexandria, VA, two grandchildren, Samantha Margaret Vick of Los Angeles, CA, and Kristin Elizabeth Vick of Glastonbury, CT, a sister, Dorothy Rost of Bellaire, FL, and a niece, Judith Rost, of La Jolla, CA.
Mrs. Vick Gaines served on the administrative staff in Gulfport Field during the Second World War, and was the devoted wife of Walter C. Vick, Sr., and her second husband, Col. Robert Gaines., who preceded her in death. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Gulfport, the Great Southern Club, the Gulfport Yacht Club, the Revelers Club, the Merry Maskers, and the Four Seasons Garden Club. She was also an avid bridge player.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 28th, from 12:30 to 1:30, services immediately following, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Gulfport Humane Society, 2615 Hwy 49, Gulfport, MS 39501.
