Bessie Loper Saucier, age 98 and a resident of Gulfport, died Sunday, January 10, 2010, in Gulfport.
Mrs. Saucier was a native of Gulfport and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She worked at Mac Smith Garment Factory. Her passions were working in her vegetable garden and flower beds, sewing, quilting, and crafts. She attended the Lyman Senior Citizens Center.
Mrs. Saucier was preceded in death by her parents, Annie and William Loper; husband, Clifford Saucier; daughter, Dorothy J. Spence; and sister, Bonnie Bommer.
Survivors include a son, Harold Saucier (Maggie); brother, Robert Loper (Ruth), all of Gulfport; grandchildren, Rodney Spence (Connie), Danielle Bates (Todd), Randy Saucier (Rebecca), all of Gulfport; and Marlene Cockrell (Leman), of Magee; great-grandchildren, Sarah Beth Spence, Diggs Spence, Madie Bates, Cody Bates, Bennett Bates, Lauren Cockrell, Carlee Cockrell, and Ashley Cockrell.
The family would like to express appreciation to Dot Thigpen, caregiver and family friend.
Visitation will be at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11213 Hwy 49 N., Gulfport, on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, from 6 until 8 p.m. The service will be at New Hope Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 13, at 2:00 p.m., where friends may visit after 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.
