Bessie Hatten Martin Bruer, a beloved educator and cherished member of her community, passed away on December 12, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on March 1, 1940, in Gulfport, Mississippi, Bessie dedicated her life to nurturing the minds of future generations and left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Bessie’s educational journey began at Gulfport High School, where she laid the foundation for her lifelong passion for learning. She further pursued her studies at Perkinston Junior College, the University of Mississippi, and the University of Southern Mississippi, ultimately earning her Master's Degree. Her commitment to education inspired many, and she was admired for her dedication both in the classroom and beyond.

Bessie was not only passionate about her work but also devoted to her family. She is survived by her loving sisters, Mary (Robert) Webb and JoAnn Howard, as well as her brother Paul (Gloria) Hatten. They, along with countless friends and former students, will remember her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marechalneal Williams Hatten and Everett Hatten; her husband, Frank Lewis Martin; and her second husband, Calvin Bruer. Bessie's legacy of love and education will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have crossed her path.

As we remember Bessie, we celebrate her extraordinary life and the countless lives she touched through her dedication to teaching and her loving nature. She will be missed dearly by her family, friends, and the many students she inspired throughout her illustrious career.
