Benigno Raul Mederos-Aportela, age 74, of Gulfport, passed away on March 18, 2025.
Benigno Raul Mederos, Born on February 13, 1951, in Central Havana Cuba. Ben was 74 years old when he went to his eternal home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2025. Due to double pneumonia and other lung complications.
He was the first beloved son of Raul and Maria E. Mederos. Husband to Nereida Mederos and brother to Alex Mederos and Lourdes Mederos de Rodrigues.
Ben, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His passing left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the profound impact he had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Ben is survived by his loving mother, Maria E. Nereida; his wife; his brother, Alex; sister, Lourdes; son, Michael; daughter, Janean; daughter-in-law, Janette; grandchildren, Britney, Kateland, Trevor, Candace; great grandchildren, Emilia and Jason. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles who adored him dearly and a host of cousins who shared his joyful spirit.
After his graduation from high school, he joined the Army. After his Army stent, he studied to be a pastor and then studied to become a boiler engineer. Ben was also a partner in a plumbing business with Bob Bissett, a loving lifelong friend.
Ben lived in many places, a few are Gulfport & Saucier MS, Miami FL, Hutchinson KS, and Korea. He was well-traveled and went all over the world.
His dedication to his faith and his desire to bring light to those in need epitomized his joyful and generous nature. His generosity was something he kept quiet due to his humbleness. So many families have contacted his wife giving thanks for all the help he gave to so many people we were unaware of. The best title we can give Ben is an amazing, faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Showing utmost respect and consideration to his wife Nereida.
Outside of his loving work and generosity for others, he loved music, the open road and going on cruises around the world with his “partner in crime”, wife Nereida. Lol! His favorite song to sing to his wife was “Pretty Woman”.
Those who knew Ben will remember him for his infectious smile and overwhelming laughter, his deep-rooted faith in Jesus, and his unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness of Jesus to everyone he encountered. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, but sometimes he made us go Err and Ugh. Lol! Especially when he was a “little” impatient when waiting on others to do tasks for him. Regardless of his, sometimes impatience, he did leave a lasting loving impact on all who crossed his path. He made friends in Christ wherever he went, also sharing his everlasting love for his family.
