Barry Milhas

1932 — January 1, 2020

Wiggins, MS

Barry James Milhas, August 6, 1932 – December 22, 2020

Barry was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, son of the late Martin Joseph Milhas Jr. and Esther Mary Cassanova.

Barry met his wife Ruby at 12 years old when she came to babysit his sister and told her then that he was going to marry her! Their love lasted a lifetime. In April they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. And what a life to celebrate!

As a proud veteran, Chief Petty Officer Milhas served his Country in communications for the Navy and worked as a cook for the United States Marine Corps. He was well traveled, with stations including Newfoundland, Virginia, Washington DC, Morocco and London. Ruby and Barry enjoyed many clubs and activities including baseball leagues, bowling leagues, square dance clubs but of them all, GOLF was Barry’s favorite, so no surprise he enjoyed working at Stone County Golf club late in retirement!

Following honorable discharge from the service, Barry continued his Education at Delgado and went on to establish a career as a master electrician with Bunge Corp, TVA, & Pascagoula Shipbuilders and briefly worked in real estate. Upon retirement, he enjoyed the solitude and quiet life in Wiggins, Mississippi. Hobbies included reading Harry Potter novels, visiting casinos and watching as many old Western movies as his beloved wife would allow.

Barry spoke freely of his faith and was proud of the turning point in his life when he became a devout Catholic and practiced at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He was confident in his salvation through Jesus Christ.

Barry J. Milhas, 88, died peacefully at his home in Wiggins, MS on December 22, 2020.

Survivors include one son Steven M. Milhas of Wiggins, MS, his daughter, Pamela F. Milhas Brenner and her husband, Charles F. Brenner III of Labadieville, LA, and Grandchildren Emily B. Ovalle, Sarah B. Danos, Nathaniel G. Brenner, Brandy T. Saurage, Robin McDonner, Brittany Swain, Nichole M. Blank, Christopher Milhas and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Barry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruby B. Milhas, son, Michael B.J. Milhas, and sister, Leslie Boehm.
