Barney Hill Jr., 77, of Long Beach, Mississippi, passed away on December 10, 2023. He was born on November 24, 1946, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to the late Barney Hill Sr. and Bonita (McKinnon) Hill and was a member of First Baptist Church in Long Beach.
Barney had a zest for life and a deep love for his wife, Mary Joanne (Strohauer) Hill. He cherished their time together and was known for his unwavering devotion to her.
Throughout his life, Barney pursued various careers that reflected his passions. For much of his career he served as an educator and school principal in Woolmarket, guiding and shaping the lives of countless students. Additionally, he found joy as Fishing Frenzy’s charter boat captain, where he spent his days on the open water, casting lines, and shouting, "Fish on!". Barney also spent time manufacturing his own tackle through Tight Line Tackle, leaving a lasting impact on the fishing community. His pride of the Gulf Coast and seafood also brought him to a brief stint as owner/operator of the Blow Fly Inn in Gulfport.
Barney's love for fishing extended beyond his career. It was a hobby that brought him immense pleasure, and he could often be found sharing his fishing tales with others. He knew the best spots to cast a line and was always eager to teach others the art of angling.
