Barbara Barton Walton passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at her home in Gulfport, MS.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 12, 2011, at 2:00 pm at St. Mark's Episcopal Church where friends may visit an hour before the service. A graveside memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Memphis Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, TN.
Mrs. Walton was born on May 8, 1932 in Jackson, TN to the late Doris and Neil K. Barton. She attended The Hutchison School in Memphis, TN and Randolph-Macon College in Lynchburg, VA. She was a devoted member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Gulfport and previously of Holy Communion Episcopal Church in Memphis, TN. She was actively involved in the Shedd Dyslexia Foundation, Faith At Work, The Memphis Interfaith Council and the Chi Omega Alumni Association.
She is survived by three children: Lynn Varner (Bryan), Ginger Halliday (Jim), Van W. Walton, Jr. (Rebecca) and four grand children: Lane Varner, Sarah Varner, Katherine Halliday, and Bailey Halliday. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doris and Neil K. Barton; her husband, Evander Williams Walton (Van); and her brother, Neil K. Barton, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church or Holy Communion Episcopal Church, or a charity of your choice.
