Barbara Danielson Showalter, age 72, former resident of Diamondhead, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2010, in Tucson, AZ.
Mrs. Showalter was born in Gulfport, MS on November 15, 1937 to Lowell and May O'Neal Danielson. She was a registered nurse, having graduated from Mather School of Nursing in New Orleans (1958). She received her Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Broward Community College in Davie, Florida (1983), and received her Certified Municipal Clerk Certificate (1994). She was also the former medical charge nurse for Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans. Other positions Mrs. Showalter held included City Clerk for Plantation, FL, and Weston, FL, and the Executive Assistant to the CEO for Hancock Medical Center in Bay St. Louis, MS.
Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, scuba diving, and reading. An avid learner, she was always intellectually curious and had a special interest in science, nature and history.
Mrs. Showalter was very active in the Rotary Club for the past 17 years, having served as Club president, secretary and treasurer. She was a member of the Diamondhead United Methodist Church and was a life member of the academic society, Phi Kappa Phi.
She was universally known for her cheerful disposition, sensitivity, and caring for others, even during her last difficult months of life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Lowell Showalter.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Robbins and her husband, Leonard; grandsons, Ian and Rome Robbins, all of Tucson, AZ; cousins, David and Mike Riemann and their families, of Gulfport, and Dan & David OaÌââ¢Neal of Gulfport, Bob Henderson of Tyler, TX, Jean Henderson Glover of La Jolla, CA; and other members of the OaÌââ¢Neal, Riemann and Showalter families.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, at 1:00p.m. Friends may visit one hour prior to services.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
