Barbara M. Shields, age 78, passed away on March 29, 2019 in Gulfport, MS. She was born April 26, 1940 in Hamilton, Scotland.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William Wilson and Clara Forfar Wilson; three brothers, Iian Wilson, Thomas Wilson, and David Wilson.
She is survived by her husband, of 52 years, Capt. James E. Shields, USAF Retired; son, Christopher William Shields; step-son, Byron James Marlow; and her niece and nephew, Claire and Alexander Wilson of Hamilton, Scotland.
Barbara graduated from Hamilton Academy, Hamilton Scotland in 1956. She attended and earned her RN Degree from Bells Hill Hospital in Motherwell, Scotland in 1961. She was working in the Emergency Department of Earls Court London Hospital when she met and dated James E. Shields. In 1966 she immigrated to the U.S. and married her husband James in May 1967. In 1968 she served as Night Shift Supervisor at San Bernardino Nursing Home while her husband James served in Vietnam. From 1968 through 1970 she worked at the USAF Hospital in Wiesbaden Germany as a Surgical Ward Nurse. During the period 1976 thru 2007 she enjoyed working with pre-school children at the Keesler Air Force Base Childhood Development Center. During her 27 years at the center she earned many outstanding achievement awards. In 1991 she became a U.S. Citizen and continued to work in Civil Service at the Center until her retirement. After her retirement she enjoyed early morning swimming with friends at the Donal M. Snyder Recreation Center in Biloxi MS. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten by her family and dear friends.
Per Barbara's wishes, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her honor be made to the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd, Houston TX 77030 or at their website, https://www.mdanderson.org/donors-volunteers.html
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave. Biloxi, MS. RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Rd. Biloxi is serving the family.
