Heaven gained another angel on Sunday, December 1, 2024, when Barbara Ann Dickson Polk passed away peacefully at home at the age of 89, surrounded by her family. Born on September 14, 1935, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, Barbara's life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her family, her faith, and her profession.
With a remarkable career spanning over 40 years, Barbara was a Registered Nurse after graduating from the Methodist Hospital Nursing Program at the young age of 19. She dedicated her life to caring for others and making a significant impact on the lives of many in her community.
In August 1955, Barbara married her sweetheart, Nira Polk. Together, they shared a loving partnership that lasted for 69 wonderful years. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Jennifer Polk Williams, who is married to Marshall, and Angel Polk Williams, who is married to Greg. Barbara took great joy in her roles as wife and mother, and later embraced the role of grandmother with immense pride. She is survived by her grandchildren: Meagan Williams, Katelyn (Dillon) Groce, Ashlynn Williams, Hope Williams, Summer Joy Williams, Trevor Williams, Wyatt Groce, and Emerson Groce.
She is also survived by her brother, Lawrence Dickson, her sister, Lynda Chizk, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends who will miss her dearly. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Brandon Dickson and Eliza Dickson Rayborn, her brother, John Dickson, and her sister, Mildred Smith.
Barbara's faith played a central role in her life. She was a proud member of Woolmarket Baptist Church and later joined Faithview Baptist Church, where she enjoyed the fellowship and service of her community. She loved the Lord wholeheartedly and found joy in her time spent at church, among her flower gardens, and during family camping trips.
Family, friends, and all whose lives Barbara touched are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Faithview Baptist Church, located at 24073 Church Avenue, Saucier, MS 39574. A graveside service will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport, MS.
Barbara Ann Dickson Polk will be remembered not only for her career in nursing but also for her deep love for her family and her steadfast faith. Her kind spirit and gentle heart will forever leave a lasting impression on all who knew her.
