Barbara Ann Alexander Hill, 77, beloved wife, wonderful mother and loving grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Gulfport surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 9, 2020.
She was born November 23, 1942 in Derby, MS. She graduated from Alcee Fortier High School, New Orleans and attended Southeastern Louisiana University and soon met and married the love of her life, Royce Hill. After marriage, her husband’s career took them to Huntsville, AL, Clearwater, FL, Santa Monica, CA, Minneapolis, MN, Pass Christian, MS and finally to Gulfport, MS where they raised their three sons.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Alexander of Derby, MS; her mother, Evelyn Smith Alexander Casey of Gulfport; her father-in-law, Walter Cody Hill; and her mother-in-law, Floriene Constance Hill, both of Gulfport, MS.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Royce M. Hill of Gulfport, MS; her sons, Justin Todd Hill (Mitzi Moldauer) Sint Maarten, Austin Royce Hill (Edna Fernandez) of Holly Springs, NC, Ryan Alexander Hill (Natalya Itu) Denver, CO; hersisters, Jeannie Alexander of Gulfport, MS, and Jan Guarini (John) of Robbinsville, NJ; her brothers, Jack Casey of Gulfport, MS, David Casey (Judy) of Greensboro, NC, and Danny Casey of Greensboro, NC; her grandchildren, Jacob Austin Hill, Justin Cody Hill, and Meredith Anne Hill of Holly Springs, NC; her sister-in-law, Imogene Hill Berry; and her brother-in-law Dennis S. Hill, both of Gulfport, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barbara was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with her family. She took much pleasure volunteering in numerous Bayou View & Westminster Elementary functions, serving as Boy Scouts Den Mother, Junior Auxiliary of Gulfport, and Gulfport Yacht Club activities involving her sons. She had a particular interest volunteering in activities involving children with special needs. She enjoyed cooking, baking, needlework, gardening, pets, and nature. Barbara was a kind-hearted, unassuming, loving, easygoing gentle woman…a true southern lady.
Out of respect for the current pandemic’s social distancing and reduced gathering guidelines, there will be a private graveside service at Floral Hills Cemetery in Gulfport at a later date.
