Barbara Harden

Barbara Renkel Farrel Harden, age 76, of Long Beach, passed away on October 14, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Hilde Renkel Farrel, and her husband, John L. Harden.

Barbara was a native of Idar-Oberstein, Germany and a resident of Long Beach.  She was fiercely proud of her German heritage.

She was a U.S. Army veteran, worked at Memorial Hospital, and retired from the Long Beach School District after more than 20 years in education.  She was of the Lutheran faith.

Her greatest achievements were being a mother to her two amazing children and "Mimi" to her three beautiful grandchildren, whom she adored more than anything. She especially enjoyed attending and cheering on her children and grandchildren at all of their sporting events and activities. She took pleasure in playing Bunco with her group of retired teachers, the same group she had played with for decades. She was a self-proclaimed "foodie" who delighted eating out at nice restaurants. Barbara especially loved to travel and taking her children on vacations every year, whether it be Disney World, Europe, or a beach somewhere.

Barbara's family would want everyone to know that their mother was a beautiful person, inside and out, who was loved by everyone who met her. She had the most kind and loving heart and, will be missed immeasurably. The family would also like to give special thanks to nurse Paige, Ms. Brown, and Ms. Karon at SummerHouse Bay Cove Assisted Living; to every single staff member at Pass Christian Health and Rehab, especially Karie Allen, RN, and to Notre Dame Hospice for providing exceptional and compassionate care to their mother and Mimi in her final days. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 4 - 6 pm at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach.  A private interment will take place in Biloxi National Cemetery.
