Barbara Jean Fluty

Barbara Jean Alford Fluty, age 74, of Biloxi, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, October 1, 2006, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

A native Coloradoan since her birth on March 20, 1932, she married Bill Fluty in 1952 and traveled the world as a member of the U.S. Air Force family for over thirty years before making Biloxi her permanent home. Although she loved her mountains, she was a coastal Southerner by choice.

Barbara is shown above with Bill, her husband for 54 years. She is also survived by her children and grandchildren: Renee Fluty and Joe Turek, Rebecca and Shoshana; Diane and Damon Lum, Matthew, Eric and Carl; Gary and Mona Fluty, Brian, Chase and Kelby; and Denny Fluty; as well as her brother, Raleigh Alford and his children, Nicole and Burke.

An active member of the Gulf Coast community, Barbara was known for the love and commitment of spirit and soul she gave to her family and friends. She will be missed by many, including the Keesler AFB Thrift Shop, Chapel and Officers' Wives Club; Beta Sigma Phi Sorority; Coast Community Concert Assn.; Center Stage; Flamingo Fluffs; Sunkist Country Club Ladies Golf Assn.; the American Red Cross; and the American Cancer Society's Reach to Recovery program.

Her family wishes to thank the many friends that supported her in her battle with cancer. Because cutting edge cancer research contributed so greatly to her life, Barbara has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to organizations committed to finding a cure for cancer.

Barbara's life will be celebrated at Riemann Memorial Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, on Thursday, October 5, 10:00 a.m., followed immediately by visitation until 12 Noon.
