Barbara Chachitz

Barbara Carlaw Chachitz, age 98, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023.  She was born on June 16, 1925, to David and Annie Carlaw in New Bedford, Massachusetts where she grew up.

Barbara was proud of her enlistment as a Seaman in the SPARS Coast Guard during WWII.  During her military service she met and married the love of her life, Andrew Chachitz.  They resided in New York City where Barbara delivered their only child, Amy.  Later they moved back to New Bedford for many years.  In 1989 they moved to Biloxi, Mississippi to be close to their family.

Barbara is survived by her daughter Amy Chachitz; her granddaughters, Hollis McKinley, Stacy McKinley Jetton, Heidi Jablanski, and Barbra Jablanski Droddy; and her great grandchildren, Hunter McKinley, Hydie Jetton, Henry Jetton, Alexandra Jordan, and Oklynn Droddy.

Barbara enjoyed traveling, flea markets, painting, and swimming at Martin Lake Resort.

The family wishes to thank nurse Rosie and all the staff members at Ocean Springs Health and Rehab, for the compassionate care they gave to Barbara.

The funeral will be a private ceremony at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
