Barbara A. Birt, a cherished member of her community and beloved matriarch, passed away on April 4, 2025, at the age of 91 in Gulfport, Mississippi. Born on September 28, 1933, in Borger, Texas, Barbara dedicated her life to her family, her work, and her passion for creativity.
With an impressive career spanning over 45 years as a legal secretary, Barbara demonstrated remarkable dedication and professionalism. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to own several successful businesses, including The Gift Box in Gulfport, MS, along with Barbara's Fashions and Barbara's Book Store in Panama City Beach, FL. She also created exquisite pieces for her own collection while owning Barbara's Fine Jewelry.
Barbara was not only a devoted businesswoman but also a woman of many interests. She had a profound passion for making jewelry, which provided her great joy and fulfillment. An avid reader, Barbara spent countless hours immersed in her books and enjoyed traveling in her earlier years. As a devout Christian, she found solace and strength within her faith and was an active member of Temple Baptist Church in Gulfport. Her love for animals was evident, as she rescued dogs throughout her life, demonstrating her compassionate nature.
Deeply committed to her family and the Republican Party, Barbara thrived in the company of her loved ones. She is survived by her children, Shelley (Stephen) Johns, Randy (JeFalyn) Trammell, and Suzy (Brian) Myhres; her siblings, Carvin (Susan) Adkins and Ken (Donnabetha) Adkins; her grandchildren, David (Leah) Maxie, Kevin (Kelsy) Maxie, Caitlin Maxie, Mandy (Josh) Phillips, and Shane (Jenn) Trammell; and her great-grandchildren, Harper Maxie, Everett Maxie, Gray Trammell, Ryder Trammell, Caroline Trammell, Jack Phillips, and Lily Phillips. Barbara also leaves behind her beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix, Marcie, and her German Shepherd mix grand-dog, Luke.
She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Adkins; her mother, Otha Rakes; her first husband, Robert Trammell; her second husband, William Paradies; her third husband, Donald Birt; and her daughter, Lynnette Trammell Johnson.
The family expresses special thanks to her nurse, Rose, and the entire Deaconess Hospice staff for their compassion, support, and kindness during Barbara’s final days.
Barbara A. Birt will be remembered for her strength, creativity, and unwavering love for her family.
