August Richard Pique, Sr., of Woolmarket, MS, was born on April 3, 1929 in New Orleans, LA to Walter John Pique, Sr. and Margaret Mary Hogan Pique, and went Home to Heaven on October 5, 2008, in Gulfport, MS.
As a youth, he attended St. Henry Catholic Church and School in New Orleans, St. Thomas Catholic Church and School in Long Beach, MS, and St. Stanislaus Catholic School in Bay St. Louis, MS. Mr. Pique was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Gulfport for 40 years before becoming a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Woolmarket for the last 19 years.
Mr. Pique was employed at Barq's in New Orleans, Ritchey Motors in Gulfport, Pattison Pontiac in Biloxi, and Bert Allen Pontiac in Gulfport, before becoming self-employed in Woolmarket. While at St. John Parish in Gulfport, he was a Fourth Degree member of Bishop Gunn Knights of Columbus Council 1583 of Gulfport and a longtime member of the Krewe of Gemini of Gulfport.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Walter John Pique, Jr., Elmer Joseph Pique, Sr., Harold James Pique, Sr., and his sister, Margaret Mary Pique Young.
Mr. Pique is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 60 years, Marie Iantha Ladner Pique; his son, August Richard Pique, Jr., and his wife Susie, of Woolmarket; his daughters, Sandra Pique Erhard and her husband John, of Saucier, and Tammy Pique Morton and her husband Patrick, of Laplace, LA.
He is also survived by his grandsons, Kevin Erhard and his wife Melva, Jason Erhard and his wife Ellen, all of Gulfport, Darren Erhard and his wife Aimee, of Waveland, MS, Ryan Pique of Mobile, AL, Matthew and Michael Morton of Laplace, LA; his granddaughter, Mary Margaret (Maggie) Morton of Laplace; his other grandchildren, Audrey Hankins of Rocky Ridge, MD, Amanda Johnston of Bastrop, LA, Adrienne Watson and her husband Jason, of Monroe, LA, Justin Mahoney and his wife Cody of Tallulah, LA and two great-grandchildren, Braxton Johnston and Jade Mahoney.
Also surviving Mr. Pique, is his brother, Charles John Pique, Sr., of Long Beach; his brother-in-law, Vincent Ladner and his wife Shirley of Gulfport; his sisters-in-law, Rosemary Pique of Long Beach and Catherine Pique of Biloxi, and also the many angels who came to assist in rebuilding the Pique home in Woolmarket after Hurricane Katrina.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2008, from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport, with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens in Long Beach.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Deaconess Home Health Care and Gulfport Memorial Hospital who cared for him with great love for a very long time. The family would also like to thank Father Dominic Fullam, Deacon Dick Henderson, Father John Ugochukwu, and the many friends and family members for their ongoing prayers, love, and support.
