Ashley Anne Hopkins

Ashley Anne Hopkins was born July 29, 1966 in Jackson, MS and passed away on April 26, 2014 in Gulfport.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd (Reba) Hopkins, Mr. and Mrs. John (Corrinne) Boyd, Jr.; and uncle, Dr. Gerald Hopkins.
She is survived by her parents, Al and Ruth Hopkins; her brother, Norris, her sister-in-law, Jodie; her nephew, Carter; aunts, uncles and cousins, Mrs. Mildred Murray Hopkins and family, Susan and Joe Street and family, Lana and Harvey Moss and family; step-grandmother, Brenda Boyd; and many friends and those who loved her.
Ashley moved with her family to Gulfport in 1970 and attended Westminster Academy and St. John High School where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. At St. John, Ashley was involved in many activities. She was on the Student Council and received the Religion Award her senior year. She was listed in Who's Who among American High School Students; Society of Distinguished American High School Students; and National Honor Society. She also won the American Legion Leadership Award.
After high school graduation, Ashley attended the University of Mississippi where she was a member of Tri Delta Sorority. She served as head of Standards, Chaplain and Panhellenic Representative. Ashley was very involved in campus activities. She was selected to Mortar Board, Beta Gamma Sigma, Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Beta Sigma, Rho Lambda, Golden Key Society, and Outstanding College Students of America. She was chosen Sweetheart of Sigma Chi and an Ole Miss Campus Favorite. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with emphasis in Marketing.
After graduation, she attended the University of Mississippi, School of Law receiving a Juris Doctor Degree in 1991. She was on the Moot Court, Honor Council, Dean's List, member of Phi Alpha Delta and Lamar Society. After graduation, she was employed by Mississippi Valley Title Insurance Co., where she served as Vice President and General Counsel.
In July 1995, Ashley was diagnosed with a Brain Tumor. Her courage and faith along with her beautiful eyes and big smile have had a tremendous impact on many people. Even in illness, she enjoyed mentoring to children and never failed to say ""thank you"" to all those who cared for her. Her sweet spirit will be missed by family, loved ones, and a host of great friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ruth Fredericks, Dr. David LaRosa, Dr. Todd Freize, Dr. Jason Smith, and Dr. Azad Kabir, as well as the many caregivers that have loved and cared for Ashley over the years.
Ashley was a member of First Baptist Church, Gulfport, MS.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the ""Ashley Hopkins Memorial Scholarship Fund"" to provide camperships for girls who otherwise would be financially unable to attend summer camp or for girls with special needs. Tax deductible gifts can be made to Gulf Coast Community Foundation designated for ""Ashley Hopkins Memorial Scholarship Fund / DeSoto Camp for Girls"" and mailed to 11975 Seaway Road, Suite B-150, Gulfport, MS 39503.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, 12190 Hwy 605, Gulfport on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 11:00 AM with a visitation for family and friends from 10:00 AM until the service.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Harmony Baptist Church, 28950 Hwy 15 N., Walnut, MS with a visitation for family and friends from 10:00 AM until the service. Burial will follow at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, Walnut, MS.
