On Thursday evening, July 3, 2008, the family of Arvah Mansell Hopkins, Jr., will receive visitors at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, on Three Rivers Road in Gulfport from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in celebration and memory of his life.
Mr. Hopkins passed away from natural causes at his Katrina Cottage home on Beach Boulevard Sunday, June 29.
Born November 21, 1952, Mr. Hopkins was the son of Mrs. Ann Hough Hopkins of Gulfport and the late Dr. Arvah M. Hopkins, Sr.
A 1970 graduate of Gulfport High School and a 1974 graduate of Tulane University, he attended graduate school at the University of Mississippi. Mr. Hopkins was a political and media consultant as well as a writer and novelist. His political clients included the late Congressman Larkin Smith, the former Secretary of State Eric Clark and current Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Oliver Diaz.
A proud and loyal member of the Gulfport Yacht Club, Mr. Hopkins regularly entertained and informed members with his wry observations of political news.
In addition to his mother, Mrs. Ann Hough Hopkins, Mr. Hopkins is survived by his brother, Dr. John Hopkins and his wife Amy Covington Hopkins of Gulfport, his two nephews, Graham and Worth Hopkins, and a host of relatives and friends who deeply loved him.
