Arpod E. Bodisch

Arpod E. Bodisch, 89, long-time resident of Gulfport, died on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 in Collins, Mississippi.
Mr. Bodisch was born on April 23, 1920 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one of six children born to the late Julia Schuzter and John Bodisch, both immigrants from Hungary. Mr. Bodisch is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Marie Comeau Bodisch, his brothers, John Bodisch of Seattle, WA and Louis Bodisch of Gulfport, his sisters Mary Daniels and Ethel Tereba of Geneva, Ohio and a daughter, Mrs.Patricia L. Copeland of Paris, Texas.
He is survived by his sister Ruby Bodisch Boomhower of Geneva, Ohio; his children, Sister Shirley Bodisch, OP, of New Orleans, LA, Elise Bodisch of Metairie, LA, Mrs. Nancy Mizell of Gulfport, Mrs. Londa Thorstensen of Gulfport, Mr. Robert J. Bodisch of Round Rock, TX, Ms. Lillian M. Bodisch of Gulfport, MS, and Mr. Donald P. McGeough of Kingwood, TX.
Mr. Bodisch is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and many more great-great-grandchildren.
A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, Mr. Bodisch joined the U.S. Navy in 1938 and retired as a Chief Electrician's Mate He was proud of his service aboard 9 U.S. Navy ships where he distinguished himself in maintaining various electrical systems in times of both war and peace.
Mr. Bodisch continued serving the U.S. Navy while working at the Pascagoula shipyard and later at the U.S. Navy Seabee Base in Gulfport until 1970. He received many awards for his work and life-long service which included a 30-year pin.
Mr. Bodisch spent his retirement years in Gulfport, MS where he volunteered his time in cleaning and maintaining the St. James Church Cemetery. He also enjoyed gardening, bird-watching, and listening to his favorite music. He will be sadly missed by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:45 a.m., Thursday, December 17, 2009 at St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport, where friends may visit after 9:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.
