Argel Pigford """"Ford"""" Lassiter, age 62, of Long Beach, passed away on July 5, 2009, in Long Beach.
Ford graduated from Long Beach High School in 1966 and served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Waller. He later studied at the University of Southern Mississippi. He worked for the Mississippi Department of Mental Health for 32 years, serving as business manager at both the Boswell Regional Center in Magee and the South Mississippi Regional Center in Long Beach.
Ford greatly enjoyed scouting, serving as a troop leader and volunteer for the Girl Scouts and as a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts. He always looked forward to his annual trips to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.
Ford was preceded in death by his parents James Aubrey Lassiter and Jane Pigford Lassiter. He is survived by Susan Lassiter, his wife of seven years. He is also survived by his daughters Kimberly Lassiter of Jackson; Kelli Hammond of New London, Connecticut; and Kristi Lassiter of Dallas, Texas; as well as three grandchildren, Thomas, Paul, and Martha Hammond of New London, Connecticut; step children, Kimberly Bowman of Lawrenceburg, KY; Kristi Watkins of Salvisa, KY; Shannon Smith of Frankfort, KY; and five step grandchildren. Other surviving family includes two sisters, Gloria Norris of Germantown, Tennessee, and Lori Lassiter of Roseburg, Oregon, and his uncle and aunt, James and Betty Pigford of Franklin, Tennessee.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Rd, Long Beach. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, 310 N. Cleveland Ave, Long Beach, where family and friends may visit from 10:00 AM until service time. Burial will be in the Old Marion Cemetery, Russell, MS, at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, July 8, 2009.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Scholarship Fund at Philmont Scout Ranch, 17 Deer Run Road, Cimarron, NM 87714.
