Annabelle "Ann" Cope, age 88, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2019 in Gulfport, MS.
Born in Lima, Ohio, on March 3, 1931, she was the daughter of Herman and Thelma (Brown) Steiger. Ann grew up in Lima, Ohio, graduating from Lima Central High School in 1949. She was a resident of Gulfport since 1962. Ann was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she spent many years as sexton, and later as a volunteer.
Ann always had a servant's heart, willing to go above and beyond to help others, even at her own expense. She enjoyed working, sewing, cross-stitching, crossword puzzles, and traveling. A very strong, independent woman, Ann raised all five of her children on her own, with very little outside help. She worked hard until she was no longer able. Her life exemplified Proverbs 31:27-28. "She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed."
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Thelma Steiger; and her brother, Robert Daniel Steiger, of Dayton, OH.
She is survived by her children; Daniel Cope, Thorndale, TX; Terrance Cope, New York, NY; Randall Cope, Midland, TX; Susan (Mike) Newnam, Tijeras, NM; and Laura (Richard) Williams, Gulfport, MS; grandchildren Lucretia Cope, Micah and Grace Williams, Adora (Danny) Broadway, Jeanna (Jim) Balli, and Michael (Audra) Herhold, and Jaime (Hyland); and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Gulfport, at 1:00pm. Interment will be at a later date at the St. Peters Little Country Church Cemetery in Lancaster, Ohio, which is what Ann requested.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gulfport.
