Anna Helen Mowatt

Anna Helen Mowatt, 92, a long time resident of Long Beach, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 in Gulfport.
Helen was born in Galesburg, IL on November 6, 1918 to Chester and Minnie Bates. She was a registered nurse who worked primarily in the areas of obstetrics and public health.
She was a loving and gentle mother and grandmother, who enjoyed poetry and painting. For many years she was the organist at First United Methodist Church, Long Beach. After retirement, she became a faithful volunteer in the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She helped organize OAKS, the seniors program, at the church which became a source of fun and enjoyment to so many.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 35 years, Alexander Mowatt and her three sisters, Lois Dixon, Edna Yeager, and Kathryn Jessen.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rena and Al Krol, Sr.; her granddaughter, Cindy Teague and her husband Ahab; and her grandson, Al Krol, Jr. and his wife, Melissa. She was blessed with five great grandchildren, Susanna and Maddy Teague and Alex, Adam, and Abby Krol. Helen is also survived by her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Ernest Coxhead of Chicago, IL, and brother-in-law, Vernon Jessen of Henderson, KY.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Lakeview Nursing Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to First United Methodist Church, Long Beach; PO Box 375 Long Beach, MS 39560.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 4, 2010 in Chicago, IL at Evergreen Cemetery.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, January 6, 2010 at First United Methodist Church, Long Beach.
