Anna Amato Helwig, age 88, passed away on September 6, 2022 in Ocean Springs. She was also fondly known as "Granny Annie". She was a primary resident of Ft. Mohave, Arizona and had lived in Ocean Springs since May 2022.
She was born in Los Gatos, California to Katherine Geraci Amato and Joseph Amato. She worked for the San Jose California School District for the cafeteria and was a military dependent to her husband deceased husband Thomas L. Woody (WWII Veteran). She was an avid bingo player and was involved in many activities at Truewood Assisted Living in Ocean Springs.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Amato and Katherine Geraci Amato; siblings, Joseph Amato, Anthony Amato, Bill Amato and Josephine Williams; son-in-law, Timothy Allen Cooper; niece's, Wanda Story and Brenda Vasquez and nephew, David Williams; stepson, Thomas Helwig.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Robert Helwig (Vietnam Veteran); children, Charlene , (MSgt. Allan T Stevens USAF Retired) of Prattville, AL; stepdaughter, Judy Helwig of Williams, AZ.; Robert Helwig, Jr., Frank Helwig, Harry Helwig, Roy Helwig, Samantha Helwig; granddaughter, Katherine Kinard (USAF TSgt. Joshua Kinard); step-grandchildren, Sean Cooper, Hillary Williams, Jacob Montez, Devon Cooper, Nathanial Williams, Jeffery Cooper, Trevor Cooper, Tommy Cooper, Michelle Wright; step-grandson, Allan (Darby) Steven's: sisters in law, Rose Helwig, Betty Blystone; The Wagner Family and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will be arranging a private memorial service at Truewood Assisted Living in Ocean Springs. There will also be a Celebration of Life in California, scheduled for November of this year.
