Ann Vance Smith Ford Barnes passed away September 12, 2009, in D'Iberville, MS.
She was born on February 29, 1932, in Birmingham, AL, and had resided on the Gulf Coast since 1964. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville.
Mrs. Barnes was an executive secretary for approximately forty years, a career she enjoyed very much. She was employed in Birmingham prior to moving to the Coast and, after taking care of her children while they were young, she resumed her career. She was employed by the Pascagoula-Moss Point Bank for a few years and by Ingalls Shipbuilding for approximately twenty years. Mrs. Barnes was founder and Queen Mother of the Rouge Chapeau Chapter of the Red Hat Society; and a life member of the VFW #6731 Ladies Auxiliary, where she held numerous positions. She was a member of the Moose Lodge, Chapter #528; President of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #2992; past treasurer of the National Secretaries Association in Pascagoula; and charter member of the American Business Women's Association, Pascagoula Chapter, where she served as hospitality committee chairman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Evan Newton Vance and Elizabeth Louise (Tachoir) Vance; a brother, Daniel Evan Vance; her first husband, Albert Harry Smith, and her second husband, James Ellison Ford.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Everett Barnes, of D'Iberville; a son, Terence Allan (Karen) Smith, of Maryville, TN; a daughter, Kelly Smith Wallace, of Covington, LA; a sister, Virginia Vance (Bill) Williams, of Woolmarket; a stepson, Robert Wayne (Dianne) Barnes, of Biloxi; a stepdaughter, Cheryl (Terry) Freeman, of Carlsbad, CA; two grandsons, Matt Robertson, of Mobile, AL; and Miles Wallace, of Mandeville, LA; a granddaughter, Kaitlin Wallace, of Baton Rouge, LA; two great-grandchildren; two nephews and four nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville, where friends may visit after 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be sent to St. Vincent DePaul Pharmacy, 715 Division St., Biloxi, MS 39530.
